Charles Akoda pleads guilty to using a fraudulent social security number to obtain a medical license in Maryland

Charles Akoda, a.k.a. Oluwafemi Charles Igberase, entered a guilty plea on November 15, 2016 to using a fraudulent social security number in order to obtain a medical license in the State of Maryland.

Akoda Repeatedly Falsified Personal Identifying Information

On information and belief, the following facts have been alleged regarding Charles Akoda:

Between 1992 and 1998, Akoda obtained three certifications from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG). He variously used different names, different dates of birth as well as a fraudulent social security number so he could practice medicine and gain entrance into a residency program in the United States.  The ECFMG Committee on Medical Education Credential revoked two certifications in December 1995, after learning how they were obtained.  In 1998, after receiving his third ECFMG certification in the name Charles John Nosa Akoda, he was admitted to a residency program in New Jersey.  He was later dismissed from the program after officials uncovered that the social security number he was using did not belong to him.

Using a fictitious social security number and other falsified documents, Akoda was then able to unlawfully obtain a medical license in Maryland using the name Charles John Nosa Akoda. Akoda went on to practice obstetrics and gynecology and obtained medical privileges at the Prince George’s Hospital Center.
