A Class Action Lawsuit Has Been Filed Against University of Maryland Medical Center
Six current and former University of Maryland Medical Center employees have filed a lawsuit alleging that a pharmacist, Matthew Bathula, carried out a decade-long cyber-spying campaign — secretly monitoring and stealing personal information from colleagues using keylogging spyware on hospital computers.
According to the lawsuit:
- Keylogging software was secretly installed on 400+ hospital devices across treatment rooms, clinics, and labs.
- At least 80 employees’ credentials were stolen — including logins to personal email, financial accounts, webcams, and more.
- Victims include young female pharmacists, medical residents, and doctors, many of whom were unknowingly recorded through webcams and personal home cameras.
- University of Maryland Medical Center failed to notify affected individuals directly. Many first learned the extent of the abuse through the FBI, not their employer.
